WS7 weather report for Hammerwich, Lichfield, Burntwood, Brownhills and surrounding areas (22 May 2011)

Observations made 08:29 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.

Rain since 00:01 hours : 2.2mm

Forecast for today.

As you may have already noted today is starting off blustery and for the majority of the day it will remain the same.  A look at the pressure chart shows the tightly packed isobars and this is an indication of increased wind speeds.

In the early hours we had 2.2mm of rain and it is likely that we could have so more fall during this morning.  The satellite images show rain cloud in our area between 09:15 hours and 10:30 hours.  Some of the cloud is quite low in density and, therefore, with the high wind it may blow past.  The higher density cloud is quite small in area and the likelihood is that any rain will be quite localised.

As the day passes the cloud will begin to fracture and during the day we could have some good bright spells.  The only problem will be the constant SW breeze.  The breeze will, on average, be around 12mph and gusts will be around 30mph.

Looking ahead the pressure charts currently show that by Thursday next week we will be hit with a low pressure system that could bring rain to all parts of th UK.

Top temperature today will be around 13-14c and the low overnight will be 9c.  In contrast on the 22 May 2010 our top temperature was around 25c!
