WS7 weather report for Hammerwich, Lichfield, Burntwood, Brownhills, Bloxwich, Pelsall and surrounding areas (19 December 2011)

Observations made 06:31 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.

Air pressure : 1015mb

Temperature : 1.4c (wind chill 0.8c)

Wind : 4mph SW

Relative humidity : 90%

Rain this month : 40mm

Forecast for today.

The day will start of cold this morning and it will probably need some “scrapper action” on the car windscreen before you can set off the morning.  Some roads and paths could also be icy.

The significant thing about today, however, is that we are now seeing some high pressure, a change in wind direction (now from predominantly the south) and a jet stream that is moving up the country.

All of these are combining to bringing warmer air, cloud cover and some precipitation.  Today will, therefore, have some periods of rain (possibly wintry showers early this morning) as a large cloud bank moves across the country from west to east. Overall it will be warmer today with a high of around 7c and an overnight low of about 3c.

The pressure charts also show that the isobars tighten a little as the day passes and this will bring an increase in the wind speed.  The average speed by the end of the day will be around 10mph with gusts of around 20mph.

 Summary.

Getting warmer but with the risk of rain throughtout the majority of the day.
