Forecast for today.

A strange day today as the temperature will slowly get cooler as the day passes.  At 05:26 hours this morning our outside temperature was 11c, however, by mid afternoon the temperature will fall down to around 7c.  This  is due to a warm front getting pushed gradually southwards as the day passes and we will have a slight wind shift towards the WNW.

The pressure charts are showing that the isobars are still tightly spaced and this will mean another breezy day is in store.  I expect wind speeds to average around 15mph and gust will reach around 25-30mph.  The wind will be from a generally westerly direction (WSW to WNW).

The day will be mostly dry, however, with this amount of cloud some drizzle and light rain is always possible.  This is particularly likely with this kind of weather pattern mid to late afternoon.

Whilst the cloud cover will be with us most of the day the satellite forecast does show a break up of the cloud after dark.  The astronomers amongst you should get a window of opportunity to see the stars around 21:00 to 24:00 hours.

This day in history

This day last year we were at the end of another cold spell and there was a harsh frost with temperatures around -2c in the morning.  As the day passed things warmed up to a scorching 5c.

This, however, was nothing compared to the 21 January 1959. On this day deep snow was on the ground.  How do I know? Well this  was the day I was born.  Talking to my mother, Joyce in Pelsall  last night, she was telling me how my father had to walk to the Midwife’s house and then dig her car out of the snow so that she could help with my home delivery.  It seems that from the minute I was born the weather has played a significant part in my life!
