Forecast for today.
Another breezy day is in store as the isobars continue, for today at least, to remain tightly packed. This will bring average wind speeds of around 9mph. The gust speeds will be around 25-30mph. The wind direction will be from the SW-W.
The cloud will thin from time to time to allow some periods of sunshine. This will help lift temperatures up to a maximum of 10c although it will feel more like 6.5c with the wind chill.
The cloud will also bring the threat of an isolated shower, however, the current rain clouds that appear on the radar imagery show the threat of rain is currently blowing past. The next real threat of rain would be when temperatures start to cool down around 15:00 hours.
Looking ahead the isobars start to widen over the next couple of days and this will bring us less wind speed that of late. There appears to be some heavy rain moving towards the UK for Tuesday. The jet stream looks as if it starts to turn towards the north before looping back over the UK. If this situation remains (remember I am only looking at calculated imagery that could change over the next day or so) then we could have a spell of much cooler weather at the end of the month / beginning of February.
Finally, my astronomy cloud forecast for today. The best viewing will be in the earlier part of the evening as cloud cover will increase towards midnight.
Summary for today.
Some clear and bright spells between periods of cloud. Windy and some chance of light rain.
