WS7 weather report for Hammerwich, Lichfield, Burntwood, Brownhills, Bloxwich and Pelsall areas (9 May 2012)

Observations made 06:30 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.

Air pressure : 1005.6mb

Temperature : 8.6c

Wind : Calm

Relative humidity : 89%

Rain last 24 hours : 0.0mm

Sunrise / sunset : 05:05/ 20:34 hours

Forecast for today.

The day will start bright during the earlier hours of the morning and we will see some sunny spells.  This will help lift the top temperature up to around 12c.

During the afternoon the jet stream (see image below),  due to its slight loop out to the west, has created a low pressure system to the SW of us.   As the jet stream then pushes across the UK cloud and rain will reach our area.

The cloud will thicken as the morning passes, however, we should not see any real rain until after lunchtime / early afternoon.  The rain will be widespread across our area and some of the fall could be heavy. My tip is to get out to the shops or get your outside jobs done this morning.

The cloud and rain will remain with us throughout the night and this means that we will only see the night-time temperature fall by a degree or so.

The wind will remain light all day and this is one of the reasons that the rain will linger around with us for the time that it will.  The wind direction will be from the S-SW.

Summary

Bright start turning cloudier and then rain moving in.
