Autumnal Practice.

With the official start of Autumn now only a few days away the weather seems to be having a trial run today.

Cloud will increase slightly as the morning passes although we will still see some bright spells through thin or fragmented cloud.  The cloud will dissipate late evening to leave a clear overnight sky.

The jet stream will be taking a path NW to SE across the UK.  This will draw cool air in from the north and reduce today’s top temperature noticeably.  During the daytime our high will only reach around 14c and overnight we can expect the low to reach around 6c.  Gardeners will certainly have to consider protecting tender plants tonight.

During early drive time this morning and in the early to mid evening there is also the chance of some rainfall.  The risk of rain today is around 75%.

With a number of low pressure systems acting across the UK we will also have a regular breeze blowing.  Initially the breeze will blow from the WSW – SW but as the jet stream moves the wind direction will be from the cool NW.  The average wind speed will be around 8-10mph with gusts of around 25mph.

Summary.

A cooler day with some bright spells and possible showers.

Observations made 06:33 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.

Air pressure : 1009.2mb; Temperature : 8.8c; Wind : 4mph SW; Relative humidity : 93%; Rain last 24 hours : 1mm.
