The jet stream is creating a mixed weather outlook for today and the weekend. During today we will start of with a mild but a generally cloudy morning. Whilst the majority of the morning will be dry the radar images are showing a band of rain cloud pushing down the UK from N to S.
This rain cloud should reach our area late morning / lunchtime and will bring us the risk of some showers until late afternoon. The cloud will restrict the maximum daytime to around 13c.
Once the rain cloud has pushed by we will be left with clear and dry night. By evening, due to a further movement south of the jet stream, we will be receiving the wind from a more northerly direction. These combined factors mean that we have a cold night with the minimum temperature around 4-5c. This really is a night for gardeners to protect their tender plants.
On the positive side it should make a good night for astronomical observations!
The wind will start off from the SSW but as, as the day passes, will move towards the N. The average wind speed will be 4-5mph.
Today’s summary.
Cloudy start with the risk of rain late morning and into the afternoon. Clearing later to leave a cold night.
