Southerly breeze.

In contrast to yesterday’s early morning showers today will start off with a clear sky and, if you are up early enough, a clear view of the stars.  As the morning starts to wake up the cloud cover will increase enough to bring a 20% chance of further rain today. (Since 00:01 hours and 06:22 hours 1.8mm of rain fell in Hammerwich).

In the main, however, it will be a mild day with some brighter spells breaking through thin or fragmented cloud.  A significant feature of the day will be the southerly breeze which will bring warmer air to our region.

Temperatures will reach a maximum of around 14c during the daytime and overnight will dip to a minimum of around 9-10c.  The average wind speed will be lighter than recent days with an average speed of around 7 and gusts of 15-20mph.

Looking ahead at the jet stream forecast images shows that the later part of the weekend the “stream” will be running N to S down the country and this  could bring some further periods of rain.  (More likely in the latter part of the weekend).

Summary.

Observations made at 06:22 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.

Air pressure : 995.9mb, Temperature : 8.7c, Wind : 1mph S, Relative humidity: 94%, Rain last 24 hours : 2.8mm.
