How much snow today?

Today all parts of our area will see more snow fall.   This is caused by the two weather fronts I described yesterday meeting over mainland UK.  When the warmer air from the West meets the cooler air from the East precipitation falls in the form of snow.

The snow fall will be mostly light although there will be times of slightly heavier falls.  These heavier fall will be around 06:30 to 08:30, 12:00 to 14:00 and around 18:00 hours.   Clearly any snow fall means that traffic is likely to move more slowly and journey times will be extended.

As the day passes the temperature will drop and by mid afternoon the air temperature will be around -3c.  Overnight there will be little temperature change but we will see some more light snow fall until around 07:00 hours.

The wind will be blowing initially from the NE moving towards the SE as the day passes.  The average wind speed will be around 10mph although we will see gusts of up to 25mph.  This wind will create a very cold feel to the air temperature and the -3c temperature will feel more like -5c.

Some snow but generally light with the odd heavier fall at times throughout the day.  Remaining cold.

Observations made at 05:41 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.

Air pressure : 1006.2mb, Temperature : -0.3c, Wind : 8 NE, Relative humidity: 90%, Rain since 00:01 hours : 0.0mm, Rain this month : 11.6mm
