After yesterday’s snow across our area today will be a less dramatic affair. In Hammerwich the average depth of snow to fall yesterday was around 120mm.
Whilst we will see further snow flurries today these will not really add to the current accumulation. The bigger hazards today are the lying snow and ice that is being formed by the freezing temperatures.
Our top temperature today will not reach above freezing point (will be around -0.5c). Overnight the temperature will fall further to around -2c. If you are walking around today you will think the temperature is even lower than the actual air temperature due to the cold ENE wind. This will add a wind chill factor of a least another degree.
The wind will remain from the ENE all day. The average wind speed will be around 5mph.
Looking ahead, further light snow will fall over the next few days. It will be a very cold week and, looking at the GFS ensemble chart, suggests that there will be no uplift in temperature until the 25 January.
Cold with occasional light snow flurries.
