Firstly, can I thank you for you good wishes over my recent health issues. I have a long battle ahead but I am determined to see the fight through. In particular I would like to thank Brownhills Bob who sent me some inspiring thoughts – thanks Bob. Whilst I cannot promise a weather report every day I will try to produce as many as a I can from now on.
Today is the first day of the meteorological summer and, right on cue, the sun is set to shine for good periods of the day.
The wind, however, is blowing from the NW and this will bring some chill to the air. The average wind speed today will be around 6mph although we will see gusts of up to 15mph.
The day will remain dry (note the relative humidity is low at 59% and the air pressure is high) and, therefore, you are safe to invite friends around for the first barbecue of the summer. For the local cricketers, the pitches will become drier as the day passes and, therefore, batting second may be a good option to consider.
Our top temperature today will be around 16c and overnight the low will reach a minimum of around 5c.
Looking ahead the GFS ensemble chart is showing a slight increase in temperature over the next week (see chart below).
Observations made at 10:00 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.
Air pressure : 1023.6mb, Temperature : 14.2c, Relative humidity : 59%, Rain this year : 191.6mm
