The jet stream (see image below) is bringing warm air from the mild SW. Last night this help maintain the minimum temperature in double figures (minimum temperature 13.1c at 02:07 hours). This warm air will help create cloud and eventually bring precipitation.
Despite heavy cloud cover for much of today temperatures will be high. Our maximum daytime temperature will be around 19-20c by mid afternoon whilst overnight the minimum temperature will be around 11c.
The radar images are showing a large band of rain moving upwards across the UK from the SW corner. We have already had a sprinkling of rain this morning (0.4mm) but we can expect some more rain later in the day. There is a chance of a some localised drizzle around lunchtime but the more persistent and generalised rainfall will be late in the afternoon / early evening.
The wind is deriving from the SW today and will, at times, be breezy. We can expect the average wind speed to be around 10mph with gusts of around 25mph likely.
The high density of cloud today means that both the pollen count and UV factor are low today.
Cloudy, breezy but mild. Rain showers likely later.
