A complex system of low pressure is beginning its journey through our area today. The wind speeds have already increased from those we encountered yesterday and the temperature will only reduce as the day passes.
The wind at approximately 06:30 hours was deriving from the warmer SW, however, as the day passes the derivation will switch to the W – WNW. The average wind speed today will be around 12 mph with gusts of up to 35mph.
Early this morning we will see temperatures of around 8c but as the day passes the temperature by mid afternoon will have reduced to around 4-5c. Overnight the low will be around 1c. It is not all bad news, however, as we will see some bright spells break through the fragmented cloud particularly during the afternoon.
The radar images are showing that there is a 60% risk of rain this morning around 09:00 hours and this evening we have a 35% risk of some sleet around 19:00 hours. This morning’s rain currently looks as if it could be short lived.
Looking at the chart for tomorrow would suggest that we have a high (75%+) chance of seeing some snow and sleet fall in our area.
