Calm before….

The surface air pressure continues to remain low today although, as the day passes, we will see a slight increase in the barometer reading to about 997mb from 990mb.  The low air pressure is being caused by the jet stream oscillating from north to south and creating “loops” as it passes near to the UK.

Low air pressure often brings precipitation and today will bring some rain but overall it will be a dry but generally cloudy day.  There will also be the odd fragmentation in the cloud as the day passes.  There is a 70% risk of some rain today, however, rain in unlikely to be too intense.

Overnight we will see a rain cloud system develop to the south of the UK  and this will bring widespread and potentially heavy rain tomorrow during daylight hours.

Today will be generally a mild day temperature wise with a top of 16c and an overnight low of around 10-11c.

The wind will be deriving from the SW to start the day but will move clockwise towards the W – WNW as the day passes.  The average wind speed will be around 6mph.

Summary :  A generally cloudy day with some occasional showers.
