If you are planning on some Christmas shopping today then you will find it a very unseasonable day weather wise.
The jet stream continues to bring warm air from the S-SW over the weekend and this will, therefore, continue the mild theme. The jet stream will, however, move a little further westerly next week which will bring with it some rain but mild (average top temperature 8-10c) conditions. At this stage of the game the chance of a snow on Christmas day this year is less than 1% in our area.
Over the last two years the top temperature was around half what it will be today and we thought that those years were mild!
We will see some rain showers today but the radar images do show us on the eastern edge of the system so we will see less rain than say parts of Shropshire and Wales. The risk of rain in our area is 88%.
Our top temperature will be around 15c and overnight the low will be around 12c.
The presence of a low pressure system to the W of the UK does mean that it will be a breezy day with the average wind speed around 6mph and gust speeds will be around 15-20mph. The wind will be deriving from a S-SW arc.
