It was a lot colder in 2010

This morning is the coolest it has been since the 13 December , however, the air temperature, at approximately 06:30 hours, was still above average at 6.3c.  The last few years have been equally mild but in 2010 the air temperature at the same time in the morning was -4.5c.

For today the synoptic charts are showing the points of equal air pressure are closely spaced and this suggests that it will be, at times, a breezy day.  The wind will be deriving from the SSW-SW for the majority of the day.  The average wind speed will be around 8mph with gusts around 15-18mph.

The radar images are showing that there is a band of rain sitting across Ireland at the time of observations and this will work its way eastwards towards our area during the morning.  This system is 70-75% likely to bring drizzle and rain showers to our area during the later parts of the morning and into the afternoon.  Once the rain clears we could see some brighter spells.

Looking ahead it looks as if we will see some rain on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but from Saturday the air temperatures will once again begin to rise bringing us a period of four to five days with double figure temperatures.

Observations made 06:34 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.
Temperature : 6.3c; Air pressure : 1010.4mb; Relative humidity : 87%; wind : 5mph SSW; Rain this month : 45.8mm ; Rain this year : 518.6mm
