Talk of snow

There is a lot of talk about snow in the Midlands today but the evidence that is currently available to me suggests that it will be generally a day of rain and sleet with only a 12% risk of some snow around 21:00 hours. The Met office have issued a “yellow” weather warning, however, any snow is more likely to form on higher ground.

What we will see, however, is a number of periods of rainfall as a large mass of rain cloud makes its way across the UK from the NW to the SE.  The rainfall could total up to 10mm.

To confirm the evidence that “poorer” weather is heading our way this morning is the fact that the barometer is telling us that the surface air pressure is falling rapidly.  The air pressure will settle at around 1010-1012mb.

It will, therefore, be a cool day and damp day with a top temperature of around 5c with the overnight low around 1c.

The wind will be deriving from the S for much of the day before switching to the N later in the day.  It is after the switch to the N that the risk of snow / sleet increases.  The average wind speed will be around 6-8mph.

Summary: A cool and damp day with periods of rain and sleet and possibly snow later.
