St Patrick’s day Weather 2016

If you have a good memory then you may recall that today’s early morning temperature (at approximately 06:30 hours) is exactly the same as that in 2015. The difference last year was that the air pressure was a little lower and there was a little more drizzle about first thing in the morning.

The good news for us today is that the jet stream is back into an Omega block formation (blocking the low pressure to the west and east of us) and the air pressure will remain high throughout the day.  There will a reduction from 1032mb to 1028mb as the day passes but this will not be enough of a change to make a significant difference.

This means that we are likely to see a cloudy start but as the day passes brighter spells will break through.  Our top temperature will reach around 9c and the overnight low will be around 3c.  The risk of any rain today is around 6%.

The points of similar air pressure are widely spread today and this means that the wind speeds will be light at around 3-5mph.  The wind will, however, be bringing in cool air from the NE-ENE.

Summary: A mild day with brighter spells developing.

Observations made 06:15 hours Hammerwich, Staffordshire.
Temperature : 5.7c; Air pressure : 1032.9mb; Relative humidity : 84%; Wind : 2 mph NE; Rain this month : 47.8mm ; Rain this year : 160.4mm
