Cold overnight

It was cold earlier this morning with the thermometer reaching a low of -0.1c at 04:20 hours.

We will see the best part of the day first thing this morning with some bright a sunny spells accompanying us on our journey to work or school.  As we head towards midday the cloud cover will increase and this cloud cover will eventually bring rain showers to our area during the afternoon and up to mid evening.  The risk of rain today is 80%.

Don’t be surprised if, with the rain, there is some sleet mixed in but there will be no accumulation in our area.  The further north you travel towards the Lake District and Scotland the risk of snow accumulation is greater.

Our top temperature today will be around 8c and overnight the minimum temperature will be around 2c.

The wind will be deriving from the SW for the majority of the day and the average wind speed this afternoon will be around 6-7mph.  First thing this morning the wind will only be light at around 1-3mph.

Summary:  A bright start after a frosty night.  Widespread rain a high risk this afternoon / evening.
