Yesterday 15.6mm of rain fell in Hammerwich with one very heavy storm mid evening. Today, by 08:30 hours, 1.8mm of rain has fallen but the radar images show that there are a number of showers still to come during the day.
We can expect between 2-6mm of rain today. The observant of you will see from my observations below that we have now received over 500mm of rain in our area this year. This equates to an average of 2.16mm per day.
It will not just be the rain that is a weather factor today as it will also be breezy at times. The Met Office have issued a “Yellow weather warning” for a strong breeze. A yellow warning (in this instance) means that It is highly likely to happen but the impact is likely to be generally low. With trees in full leaf care should be taken if you are thinking of taking ashike in the woods as there is a risk of branches breaking off.
The average wind speed today will be around 8-10mph with gusts of up to 25-30mph. The wind will be deriving from the SSW-SW.
We will see the odd glimpse of sunshine too today (2-4 hours) and our top temperature will reach about 18c. Overnight will also be mild at around 15c.
All of the rain, particularly first thing this morning, would suggest a delayed start to the T20 finals at Edgbaston. There is a reserve day in place and it may well be needed. It is also going to be a muddy time at V Festival after last night’s rain.
Today sees a great event taking place near the Cathedral – The Lichfield dash. This event is returning to the city after a short gap and is well worth a look at. For more information follow this link . There is a series of running events taking place from around 10:00 with the “blue riband” event being a race around the close by a number of top athletes against the 12 noon chimes.
Summary: Odd showers for much of the day. Breezy but mild.
