This morning sees our coldest start so far this year with the air temperature at 06:30 hours at -3.1c in Hammerwich. We have to go back to the 29 December 2016 for a colder start to the day (-4.1c at 08:44 hours).
Quite clearly today is a day for wrapping up warm and taking care on untreated roads and paths. To add to the ice / frost hazard this morning is some light mist in most parts.
The temperature will climb to a top temperature of around 4c during the daylight hours. Overnight will actually see the air temperature rise a little and the overnight low is only around 3c.
The extra “warmth” will come courtesy of a SSE breeze and increase cloud cover during the afternoon. By evening we will see a risk of some showers (60% risk) and it is almost certain (90%) that some rain will fall overnight / early tomorrow morning.
The wind will spend most of the day deriving from the SSE and the average wind speed will be around 6mph.
Summary for today : A very cold start. becomoing cloudy as the day passes with an increased risk of rain later.
