Breezy but not Doris (WS7weather report 25-2-2017)


As I write this blog (at approximately 08:15 hours) the air pressure is reducing rapidly.  A look at the synoptic charts show that, in our area, we are being affected by a low pressure system that is centred up above the NW of Scotland.

This low pressure system will “tighten” the points between areas of similar air pressure which, in turn, means it will be a breezy day.  By this I average winds speeds of around 12mph and nothing like those we encountered with Storm Doris the other day.  It will simply be breezy.

Couple with the breeze is a 60% risk of some rain from around 11:00 hours.  This band is clearly showing on the radar images this morning but, hopefully, it will have deposited most of its content before reaching our area.

It will be a mild and cloudy day due to the SW breeze.  The top temperature today will be around 9c and overnight will also remain mild with the thermometer low of around 7c.  It should be remembered that the wind chill (with a breeze of around 12mph) will reduce the feel of the air temperature by around 2.5c-3c.

Summary for today :A breezy day but mild.  A risk of some showers from late morning.
