Jet stream block (WS7 weather report 14-3-2017)

It is another mild start to the day (8.1c at 06:32 hours) and the surface air pressure was continuing to rise slowly at the time of my observations.  We can expect the air pressure to settle at around 1032mb (high air pressure) around mid afternoon.

The satellite images show that the jet stream is sitting along the northern edge of Scotland and this is “blocking” the cool air from the north reaching our area.  Today, therefore, will be another mild but generally cloudy day.  Despite the cloud the risk of any rain in our area is only around 7%.

Our top temperature today will be around 12-13c and overnight the minimum temperature will be around 7c.  Last night’s minimum temperature was 7.4c at 01:10 hours.

The wind will be deriving from a SW-WSW arc and the average wind speed will be around 7mph.

looking ahead the GFS ensemble shows a “dip” in the air pressure around the 17 March and this is likely to bring an increased risk of some rain showers over the weekend.

Summary for today : Another dry but generally cloudy day.  Remaining mild.
