A cold and snow laden start (WS7 weather report 18-3-2018)

It is a very cool start to the day with the air temperature at 08:15 hours a chilly -2.1c.  This is in stark contrast to the same time last year when the air temperature was 11.3c!

Our top temperature today is only likely to be around -1c and our overnight will be around -3c.  It will be a generally cloudy day with only the odd brighter spell.

There is, however, good news on the horizon as the air pressure is steadily rising and the radar images are showing that after 10:30am the risk of any further snow will reduce to less than 20%.  Roads and paths will, however, be slippery and present a hazard.

From mid morning tomorrow the air temperature will steadily rise and we will see the lying snow disappear.  The GFS ensemble forecast is suggesting that until the end of the month we can expect to see our top air temperature around the 8c mark (see image below) we are also likely to see some nighttime temperature around freezing point.

Today’s wind will, again, be brisk and from the cool NE/NNE.  The average wind speed will be around 12mph with gusts speeds of around 25mph.  At 12mph -2c will feel more like -7.5c.

Summary: A cold day with lying ice and snow on untreated paths and roads.
