New Year’s Eve Weather 2018 (WS7 weather report 31-12-2018)


It is another overcast but mild start to the day.  The air temperature at 08:25 hours was 8.7c which is very similar to the same time and day last year.

It is going to be a generally overcast but dry day with only a 9% risk of any rain.  It will remain mild throughout the day and night.  Our top temperature today will be around 9-10c and overnight the minimum temperature will be around 6c.  This is good news for those of you that will be travelling around the region tonight as there is no risk of any ice on the road.

Today’s breeze will be deriving from the WSW for much of the day and the average wind speed will be around 6mph.

Over the next few days the air temperature will begin to reduce and we can expect to return to work / school on the 2 January to some cool and probably frosty conditions.

A brief overview of our 2018 weather.

  • The average temperature across the year was 10.8c.  This is the same as last year but 0.4c up from 2015.
  • Our top temperature was 31.2c recorded on the 8 July.
  • The minimum temperature recorded was a chilly -6.4c recorded overnight on the 28 February and the 1 March.
  • Over the year 530mm of rain fell in our area.  The wettest month being December (72.6mm) although other parts of our region had very heavy rainfall in May.
  • In total 46.8% of the days in the year received greater than 0.2mm of rain (171 days).
  • 82 days received 2mm or greater of rain during the year (22.5%).
  • The windiest day was the 10 February when wind speeds reached 47mph (storm force 9).
  • The average wind speed was 2.2mph with the prominent wind direction being from the SW.

Summary : A cloudy day but remaining mild.
